nice one arash! definitely a good skill to have, to be able to draw "photo-realistically", and especially good in the light of that your field doesn't overtly require it. Its funny how some people say "they can't draw", but the point is that nobody can draw like that without spending a very long time practicing , I dunno, i feel being able to draw realistically is definitely under appreciated where some prefer fashionably conceptual and abstract looking things,,,, its a skill I think, which is mostly useful in ways beyond being able to draw a nice picture (capacity to visualise and communicate etc whereas abstraction tends to go the other way) so yeah, cool dude i'm impressed!

I've been having fun recently doing linoleum block printing to make tickets for an upcoming event called VOVO. I haven't played around with the technique for over ten years but suddenly wanted to try it out again. For the event each participant selects a short film from a pre-gathered batch; we screen the films without sound and the person plays music live to it.

^ that sounds like a nice event.

Arash, that's a nice drawing!

speaking of realistic drawing, i used to draw shoes with an aim to capture these ideas as realistically as it gets. this wasn't a matter of a talent for realistic drawing really (actually, not at all ;), but a matter of finding out which types of rendering (I drew with a graphic tableau) capture which types of textures (a thing i really got interested in, and so instead of some 3D modeling, i kept on using a simple program called My Paint). this is, for instance, my Owl Shoe:

Image

this is a more "usual" (i.e. not so much toy-like) kind of shoe, but i remember trying to figure out how to represent this transparent material, until I found a suitable brush ;)

a funny story: a year ago I got an email and then even a phone call from a certain Hollywood star who wanted to produce my shoes. the whole thing collapsed after it turned out there was nothing in this deal for me.

another one

I'm not so happy with the quality of this, my paper is too rough, and i love to be super detailed... i drew in individual hairs on the legs , wrist and chest.

So is it alright to post non fashion related art/illustration type stuff here or should it go in its own thread?

Live soundtrack to the SRL film A Bitter Message of Hopeless Grief at the most recent volume of the event I posted hand-printed tickets for above. I made tickets again this time around with a slightly different design. We had some technical difficulties; mainly in the background drones being quieter perhaps than they should have been as well as the timing being off from what we had (very loosely) planned, but oh well.

I decided to share a semi secret preview of a stage outfit i've made for a friend who is performing at a sold out Bonobo concert later this month. I'm quite excited about the outcome.

It is a three piece suit

the blouse is made in taffeta, the trousers in shantung and the vest in silk and with a backbone from a gradient of multiple layers of blue tulle on a hot pink shantung.

arash, looks amazing. i keep thinking back to Diaghilev ballet performances and the goncharova/bakst costumes designed for them that somehow ended up resonating through all strata of women's clothing of their time.. Very much inspired stuff.

beautiful!!! something of it reminds me of the korean hanbok - the rich colours and material, the way the blue layer starts at the bust, the neat overlaps of fabric, neckline, curved sleeves etc.etc.etc.

Both of those references crossed my mind when I saw the final outcome. I am happy you like it. Can't wait to see it on stage. I was hoping the saturated colors would play well with the lighting, and give photographers something to play with as well.
