the instructions for teenage summer camp have an odd quality of echoing through time - the story they lay out eerily parallels enthusiasm those early collections developed in the recent years with a young audience who could not have experienced it the first time around. here one has to wonder whether the act of enlarging childhood/youth experiences to mythic proportions can in itself be mythologised even further over time. teenagers of a different generation, prowling the internet for the campfire's memory.

Nostalgia for older PH, too--A nostalgia for an older nostalgia. The nostalgia or romanticism of a generation before always seems less confected than our own, perhaps, or more in touch with the reality. We're too cynical to be moved by the thought directly, but we can get around that cynicism with the right intermediary who is moved for us. fulfils a function like irony... we can plausibly deny being romantics if we let someone from the past be romantics for us, romanticise the older past for us.

replicants = humans: our being needs the past, memories which don't necessarily have to be what we have experienced
because fundamentally we lack true object of yearning-for. maybe this is the cause of nostalgia. it is not being reminiscent of something gone by but reminiscence going by.
in terms of parents, birthplace, or planet, we had no choice. we may have more or less a disappointment with that.

we have lost, being born, as much as we shall lose, dying.

smell is another yearning of mine. I am going to make a confession. when I was young I felt an irresistible fascination for the faint smell of face powder.......
........today, everything has sunk into the past. moreover, I have come to like smelling from the window of my library the garden's sweet osmanthus on quiet autumn days. I sniff the fragrance fully, all alone. then I am carried to a far, far place, that is even further away from my birthplace --- to a place where possibility remains a possibility.

There's something that really inspires me about Nemeth, but I'm unsure what, exactly, it is. Not a desire to wear his clothes above all others, at all. It's just... something...
